Lutz Bacher: AYE!

Proposal for Hannah Peschar Sculpture Award
Winter 2023 for summer 2024. (successful)
Group show application, Camberwell Space, “Speaking Without Speaking”
Despite its dada appearance, the written part of the application contained within is a critical response to finding ways to work together on an international course. I instigated a method of silent, timed, communal, English language writing. Then, we circled areas that were common or related to build a mutual web of interest. Each 5-min workshop addressed a question on the application form and was followed by slow discussion, accompanied by ‘consensus decision making’-inspired hand-signals. This is the best framework we could create for everyone to be equally a part.
I wrote up the results. The application focuses around visual and body language as ways of interacting, and the gallery as a site of cross-disciplinary practice. It was successful. The exhibition will run 9th to 29th April 2024.

Reading Group
I ran a course reading group through term 1. Sometimes these supported the sculpture seminars, while at others times we read more broadly, for example, Joseph Strau, The Non-Productive Attitude and Peggy Phelan, Unmarked, afterword.
For Sculpture in the Expanded Field, here’s the copy I read in preparation and here’s my journal entry from the end of the day.
